Coach's Corner

“It never ceases to surprise me at the infinite capacity of the human mind to resist the introduction of useful knowledge.”
- Thomas Raynesford Lounsbury

Challenge the Status Quo

Everyone talks about leaving a better planet for our kids.
Let's try to leave better kids for our planet.

Often when we make decisions, we are inclined to use our emotions more than logic. Thought without action is not always particularly helpful— while input without output can lead to stagnation. At 82, I have come to understand fear is one of our greatest illusions. Sometimes success is waiting around the transitional roadblock that becomes disguised as a failure, but right before arriving, we give up.

The first discipline of knowledge is never to stop learning. Your brain benefits when you tackle something you don't know. The brain needs to be stretched beyond its comfort zone to stay fit. Never let a day pass without engaging in one task that allows you to stay mentally young. Become your own teacher while using the classroom of life as your education.

What we do know about the future is it will be different. Done is never done because improvement is always possible. Each day of your life is an opportunity to grow, explore, and serve while unlearning and relearning. Don't accept the accepted. Challenge the status quo. The best days are the ones in which we discover new things.

Each of our lives is overflowing with promise and positive growth. Realize asking for advice is never a sign a weakness. What gets ridiculed in one stage of life, will get praised in another stage. Live your life so well today that your story is being told after your departure!
